POLITICAL PLATFORM
John Drake is the 2012 Republican Party nominee for the Nevada State Senate, representing Clark County District 11. If elected, he will focus on addressing and finding remedies for Nevada's financial fragility. His agenda will include reducing crime, preventing tax increases, limiting state-imposed regulations, and promoting less government. The following is a complete version of Drake's political platform as of July, 2012:
BUDGET AND FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Favors cutting governmental "red tape," breaking up bureaucratic logjams, budget prioritization, conservative spending practices, and accountability. Supports the revamping of the Public Employees' Retirement Systems (PERS).
CONSTITUTION
Believes in the complete, absolute adherence to the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, absent of any conflicts, the Nevada Constitution.
CRIME
Supports all practical policies and procedures geared towards reducing crime, including enacting tougher laws and harsher penalties.
EDUCATION
Favors reallocating a portion of funds from administrative costs and applying them towards teacher salaries. Supports a modest, across the board reduction in administrator salaries.
ENERGY
Supports finding alternative sources of energy in addition to, but not in lieu of, drilling for oil. Favors incentives for energy and bio-tech companies to relocate to Nevada, further diversifying our economy which will provide leverage during an economic recession. Supports incentives to encourage the use of natural gas as a fuel source.
FOREIGN POLICY
Favors President Ronald Reagan's strategy of using diplomacy and negotiation from a position of superior strength on the world stage.
HEALTH CARE
Supports the immediate repeal of the Affordable Care Act legislation (ObamaCare) and tort reform.
IMMIGRATION
Favors a stricter immigration policy and an increased border presence.
LIMITED GOVERNMENT
Supports a reduction in the size and scope of the federal government in favor of private industry and states instituting their own legislation where prudent, and in turn states deferring to county and municipal government sovereignty when feasible.
MILITARY/NATIONAL DEFENSE
Favors a strong military and national defense, industries that historically have provided thousands of jobs for Nevadans.
NEVADA LAND USE/MANAGEMENT
Nevada has 61,674 acres of federally owned land, or 87.8% of its total. Being second only to Alaska, Drake supports taking back any dormant land to manage at the state level. This includes the Yucca Mountain Repository becoming operational, which will generate badly needed revenue.
TAXES
Favors less taxes at every level of government, increasing disposable income which historically raises investment capital, lowers unemployment, and boosts the economy. Supports a three year moratorium on public utility rate increases.
VOTING
Supports a bill that would require everyone to have a driver's license in order to vote.
